How's That verschijnt tijdens het cricketseizoen wekelijks

Old Coulsdon ligt in het zuidelijkste puntje van Groot Londen. Zo’n 25 kilometer onder Charing Cross. Er wordt sinds het midden van de 18e eeuw cricket gespeeld. Vanaf 1769 door de Coulsdon CC, maar zij stopten alweer in 1784. Misschien door gebrek aan een scorer, want er zijn niet of nauwelijks resultaten bekend. Wel weten we, dat ze in 1775 Sussex (!) versloegen en dat de laatste wedstrijd tegen aartsrivaal Chertsey met 313 runs verloren werd. Dat zou ook wel eens de nekslag voor de club kunnen zijn geweest. Vandaag de dag speelt op een van de fraaiste velden in Surrey de CCWCC ( Chipstead, Coulsdon &Walcountians Cricket Club ), een amalgaam, waarin Chipstead de oudste rechten bezit. Zij ontvangen al sinds het begin van de 19e eeuw hun tegenstanders op de green tegenover de oude St.Margaret’s Church. Hoe welhaast onwerkelijk mooi dat kon en kan zijn, zeker als alle spelers en umpires in het wit aantreden, een enkeling met stijlvol, maar licht detonerend gilet daargelaten, zien we op bijgaande ansichtkaart.

De kaart, die als variant van het onvertaalbare verschijnsel Wiedergutmachung opgevat kan worden, werd op 16 mei 1962 vanuit Old Coulsdon, gefrankeerd met een jeugdige, hemelsblauwe Queen Elizabeth ter waarde van 4 pennies, door Udo Franz naar Hamburg verzonden

Udo schrijft, dat hij zich na een paar dagen in Engeland aardig heeft aangepast ( …habe mich schon gut eingelebt…) en al bijna perfect Engels spreekt. Hoe krijgt een mens dat zo snel gefixt?! Udo’s korte relaas is in feite één onafgebroken Hosanna : het aardige Britse gezin verzorgt hem optimaal, we lezen niets over de gebruikelijke culinaire bloopers in de Engelse keuken , het landschap is vertrouwd ‘hügelig und waldig’, er kan naar hartelust gemusiceerd worden, alleen het weer valt tegen. Maar goed, ook de meest verstokte Anglofiel plaatst van oudsher vraagtekens bij het Britse klimaat. Een Duitse (jonge)man, die zich relatief kort na WO II geheel wil onderdompelen in alles wat Brits is en een ansichtkaart met een archetypische impressie van een cricketwedstrijd naar Duitsland stuurt. Heel opmerkelijk. Ik neem daarom aan, dat Udo Franz deze kaart als bewijs van zijn toewijding aan Albion heeft gekozen en niet als curiositeit. Aber wissen tut man’s nie … Wat we wel weten is, dat er 61 jaar later, om precies te zijn komende zondag, weer een nieuw cricketseizoen op de green begint. Wie ist das?!

Teja Nidamanuru playing for VRA

Proudly we can announce that Teja Nidamanuru will be playing for VRA!

Teja already made his entrance in the recent captain's meeting where he already made a strong impression of his ambitions and plans for the future. And at the first ODI against Zimbabwe, he was the man of the match, steering the Netherlands' team to a strong win with his 110 not out, from 96 balls. Thursday and Saturday, the second and third match will be played. You can find a live stream at ICC TV.

Born in India, grew up in New Zealand, and have been living in the Netherlands for the last four years. Teja said: "The move to VRA for the 2023 season and beyond is prompted by me looking for a new challenge and environment to contribute towards on and off the field. I am looking forward to meeting the club members during the summer and wish everyone at VRA a great season ahead, Teja"

Training schedule Summer 2023

Taku Kusano and his team of excellent trainers have made the transition to the outdoor nets. The training schedule for this Summer is available at our website.

Some important remarks:

Make sure to be on time.
Keep the area nice and tidy when you leave the ground.
Take all your equipment with you.
Cars are not allowed in the Amsterdamse Bos; park at the designated parkings.

NL - VRA wedstrijdkleding nu te bestellen

Beste VRA-er,

De VRA-wedstrijdkleding is tot 7 mei weer te bestellen via de de VRA webshop.

Behalve alle benodigde informatie en maattabellen vind je in de webshop het bestelformulier. Dus heb je nieuwe kleding nodig, reageer dan snel, want de inschrijving voor de tweede levering sluit al op zondag 26 februari ivm lange levertijden. Bestel je tijdig, dan ontvang je het tenue nog voor het begin van het seizoen. (Ben je te laat, dan volgt nog wel een tweede bestelronde, maar arriveert je kleding pas halverwege het seizoen.) Samengevat:

VRA wedstrijdkleding kan vanaf nu weer worden besteld en betaald via de de VRA webshop.
Kleding tijdig voor het seizoen binnen? Dan uiterlijk tot zondag 26 februari bestellen.
Coordinatie bestellingen voor teams via captains of teamleider (ivm namen/rugnummers).
Korting per set (shirt/broek) bij tijdige bestelling.
Verwachte levering eerste zending half april 2023.
De tweede ronde begint na 28 februari en sluit half april 2023.
Levering van de tweede ronde wordt verwacht rond eind mei 2023

Waarschijnlijk heb je al een VRA-tenue, maar heb je iets nieuws nodig of ben je pas lid, dan is dit het moment voor aanschaf. Ten opzichte van vorig seizoen is de kleding overigens ongewijzigd.

Let op: Jouw captain/team manager bepaalt of er voor jouw team rugnummers en/of namen op de rug komen. Overleg dus met hem of haar, zodat je als team altijd een uniform tenue draagt.

The VRA match clothing can be ordered again until 7 May via the de VRA webshop. In addition to all the necessary information and size charts, you will find the order form in the webshop. So if you need new kit, respond quickly, because ordering for the first delivery closes on Sunday 26 February due to long delivery times. If you order in time, you will receive the kit before the start of the season. (If you are too late, a second batch will follow, but your clothes will only arrive halfway through the season.) In short:

VRA match clothing can now be ordered again via the de VRA webshop.
Clothing delivered in time for the season? Then order by Sunday 26 February at the latest.
Coordination orders for teams via captains or team leader (due to names/back numbers).
Discount per set (shirt/trousers) when ordered in time.
Expected delivery of first shipment mid-April 2023.
The second round starts February 28th and closes half April
Delivery of the second round is expected end May 2023.

You probably already have a VRA outfit, but if you need something new or when you're a new member, then now is the time to purchase. The match clothing by the way is unchanged compared to last season.

Note: Your captain/team manager determines whether your team will have numbers and/or names on the back. So consult with him or her, in order to always wear uniform clothing as a team.
